Mississippi Window Tint Laws
The current window tint laws for the state of Mississippi were originally enacted in 1988 and later updated in 2006. These laws use VLT (Visible Light Transmission) to determine whether window tint is legal. VLT refers to the percentage of visible light that is allowed to pass through the window.

Sedans
- Windshield:
Only non-reflective tint is allowed and only above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line. - Front Side Windows:
Must allow more than 28% of light in. - Back Side Windows:
Must allow more than 28% of light in. - Rear Window:
Must allow more than 28% of light in.

Trucks / Vans / SUVs
- Windshield:
Only non-reflective tint above the AS-1 line. - Front Side Windows:
Must allow more than 28% of light in. - Back Side Windows:
Any darkness is allowed. - Rear Window:
Any darkness is allowed.
✦ Window Tint Reflectivity Rules
- Front and back side windows on all vehicle types may not exceed 20% reflectivity.
- There are no restrictions on tint colors in Mississippi (no colors are specifically banned).
✦ Additional Important Rules
- Window tint film used in Mississippi must be certified as legal for use in the state.
- A legal tint sticker/decal must be applied to the windshield to confirm compliance with state tint standards.
- Medical Exemption:
Drivers with specific medical conditions that require extra sun protection may qualify for a medical exemption allowing darker tint. A valid medical statement must be carried in the vehicle.
